Financial Clarity for Entrepreneurs: The Woman Behind Excel Avenue Accounting

Many entrepreneurs are working hard, generating revenue, and doing everything they can to grow, but still feel unsure about their numbers. When cash flow feels tight or financial decisions feel like guesswork, it can be hard to know what move to make next. That’s exactly where Kristy D McKiernan, owner of Excel Avenue Accounting, steps in. With a passion for helping entrepreneurs (especially women) gain clarity and confidence around their finances, she’s on a mission to turn confusion into strategy. In this interview, Kristy shares what inspired her to start her business, the lessons she’s learned along the way, and why empowering business owners through financial clarity is at the heart of everything she does.

What inspired you to start your business?

What inspires me most is seeing entrepreneurs grow. I love empowering small business owners—especially women—to take control of their financial story. Teaching, mentoring, and providing strategic guidance allows me to help others turn their vision into sustainable success.

What is the biggest problem you solve for your client?

I help small business owners gain clarity and control over their finances. One of the biggest challenges entrepreneurs face is working hard and generating revenue but not fully understanding their numbers – where their money is going, why cash flow feels tight, or how to make confident financial decisions. As a Fractional CFO, I provide executive-level financial strategy without the cost of a full-time CFO. I help business owners translate their financial data into actionable insights through cash flow forecasting, profitability analysis, budgeting, and strategic financial planning. My goal is to turn the numbers into a roadmap so business owners can make smarter decisions, improve profitability, and grow their companies with confidence.

What is one challenge you’ve overcome as a business owner?

One of the biggest challenges I’ve overcome as a business owner has been learning to find and work with clients who truly align with my core values. Early on, I felt the pressure to say yes to every opportunity, but I realized that the best partnerships happen when there’s shared vision, trust, and commitment to growth.  By focusing on clients who value collaboration, integrity, and long-term success, I’ve been able to build stronger relationships and make a greater impact. That shift has helped me create a business that truly reflects my mission – empowering small business owners to succeed.

What do you love most about the work you do?

What I love most about the work I do is watching my clients grow and succeed. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a business owner gain confidence in their finances, make informed decisions, and reach milestones they once only envisioned. Being able to support entrepreneurs on that journey – providing guidance, clarity, and encouragement along the way – is incredibly fulfilling. When my clients succeed, it means their businesses, families, and communities are stronger, and I’m grateful to play a small part in that growth.
