As a small business owner, it is essential that you use every tool at your disposal to compete with larger businesses. In the 21st century, that means utilizing social media to its fullest potential. While some people may see social media as a way to stay connected with friends and family, it can also be a powerful marketing tool. By showing your potential customers that you and your business are a resource for them, you can quickly gain their trust—and their business.
Here are a few tips for using social media to show that you’re an industry expert:
1. Share tips and solutions to your potential clients’ problems
In order to be an industry expert, it is important to show that you and your business are a resource for potential clients. One of the best ways to demonstrate your expertise in your industry is to share helpful tips and solutions to your potential clients’ problems. This will not only show your extensive knowledge, but also that you are invested in helping your potential customers and that you want to see them succeed no matter if they do business with you or not. By doing this, you will gain the “Know, Like, Trust Factor” with you social media followers since you are helping and not constantly trying to sell them something. This is a great method to use and is much more likely to convert a potential client into a paying customer than just posting about your business alone.
2. Be active in groups, especially neighborhood groups
Being active in groups on social media, especially neighborhood groups, is a great way to show that you are a resource for your community. The more you post, the more familiar your potential customers will become with your name and face, and it will also show them that you’re a resource for helping. Again, your potential customers will feel like they know and can trust you and because of this they will more likely do business with you. An added bonus – being active in these groups also shows that you’re invested in your community, which is always a plus!
3. Be responsive to comments and questions
As you can see building relationships with your potential customers is one of the most important things you can do on social media. Showing that you’re responsive to their comments and questions is a great way to build that trust. When you’re responsive, you’re showing that you care about your customers and their experience with your brand. That level of care is what separates the best brands from the rest.
4. Admit mistakes
When mistakes occur and it is brought to light on social media, businesses should strive to provide a thoughtful response that does not come across as a thoughtless and uninformed reflex. It is important for us as entrepreneurs/small business owners to take the time to craft an informed reply, delivering it with grace and poise. In addition, we should strive not to hide our mistakes or push back against critiques offered by customers or clients. Acknowledging errors directly will go a long way towards maintaining positive relationships with customers.
