You will be able to simplify the key components of a marketing plan and establish the perfect marketing strategy for your business.
Our previous blog post delved into the 5 Elements of a Marketing Plan which are the building blocks of our Free Marketing Packet! Now, let’s take a closer look at the packet’s worksheets, beginning with the first step of the plan.
1. Know your Target Market
When it comes to marketing, understanding your target market is crucial. What does this mean? It means knowing your audience! Consider the size of your target market, their demographics, and any trends that may impact the demand for your business. Our Target Market worksheet can help you delve deeper into your audience. What is their age range, gender, employment status, educational background, and where do they reside? Unsure of who your target market is? Look to your competitors for guidance. Analyze their customers or social media followers to determine who your products or services are geared towards.
Within our Target Market Worksheet, we also have you figure out your target market size which is your Total Available Market. If your target market is women ages 35-65 that live in an urban community, own a home, and are college or trade school educated you will have to research how many women with those demographics are in your target area.
Here is an article by The Pipeline on ways to find your Total Available Market:
Finding your TAM by The Pipeline
Once you have your Target Market Size or your TAM you then need to document the number of customers you currently have. With your target market size and your current customer numbers, you will be able to calculate your penetration rate so that you know how many of your potential markets you are actually reaching! This is important to know so that when you are creating your marketing and sales goals you know the potential growth of your customer reach, as well as, your business.
The second element of a Marketing Plan…
2. Competitive Advantage
What sets you apart from your competitors? It’s crucial to differentiate yourself and leverage those differences to promote your brand. Consider what makes you unique and use it to your advantage. Our Competitive Analysis worksheet can help you break down this concept and assess where you stand in relation to the competition.
4. Describe your Marketing Goals & Action Plan
Are you ready to set some goals for your business’s marketing? Start by considering what you want to achieve. Do you plan on joining a networking group or ramping up your social media presence? Whatever you choose, make sure your objectives are ambitious but attainable.
But simply having a plan is not enough! You need to develop an action plan that outlines the steps you’ll take to achieve your goals. After all, as the saying goes, “A goal without a plan is just a dream!” Use the provided worksheet to jot down your action items and keep yourself accountable.
5. Figure out Your Marketing Channels
Marketing channels are the different avenues through which businesses can reach their target audience with their message. With so many options available, it can be overwhelming to decide which marketing channel to use for your business. We have included a worksheet that breaks down different marketing avenues so that you can find the channel that works best for you and drive success for your business. Here are a few from our worksheet:
Local marketing ~ Get involved in your community! Sponsor local youth sports teams, support a charity or event, get a speaking engagement, or even join a local networking group.
Influencer marketing ~ Find an influencer of your target market to promote your business. Influencer Marketing is usually done with an article or post written about your business or product or even a product review.
Email marketing ~ Use your email list to market your upcoming promotions. You can also partner with other businesses or influencers to be featured in their newsletters!
Remember, the best marketing channel for your business will depend on your unique goals, target audience, and budget. Take the time to research each option and determine which ones are most likely to reach your target audience and help you achieve your goals. Once you’ve chosen a marketing channel, it’s important to test different strategies and measure the results. This will help you determine what’s working and what’s not, so that you can make adjustments and optimize your marketing efforts for maximum impact.
Now, the last element of a Marketing Plan is…
6. Know Your Budget!
Mismanaging your budget could lead to your business’s rapid decline. It’s essential to calculate the cost of your marketing plan and conduct research to determine the feasibility of your ideas. If you’re over budget, consider reconfiguring your goals to make them achievable. In our Marketing Plan Packet, you will get a Marketing Budget Chart to fill out so you stay financially on track!!
