7 Growth Mindsets to be a Successful Entrepreneur

As entrepreneurs we focus on strengthening our knowledge in our industry by attending conferences, workshops, and webinars. We make sure we are update-to-date on the latest trends for marketing, that our finances are in order by learning the software or getting a bookkeeper to oversee it. But, do we regularly work on the mindset it takes to be a small business owner or entrepreneur? Do we make sure that we are setting healthy boundaries or what is actually possible with our business? Having the right mindset as entrepreneur or small business owner is important so that you have a good work-life balance.

It is important as an entrepreneur to have a growth mindset rather than a fixed mindset. What is the difference?

According to Harvard Business Review Individuals who believe their talents can be developed through hard work, good strategies, and input from others have a growth mindset and people with fixed mindset believe their talents are innate gifts.

Having a Growth Mindset is imperative for entrepreneurs and small business owners. If you have a fixed mindset your personal growth limitations will cause you to struggle with the growth of your business.

We have complied a short list of growth based mindsets that we think are critical to have if you want to improve your small business and be successful.

  1. Believe in YOURSELF

Knowing and believing that you are capable of anything is essential when you take the risk of being entrepreneur. WCE truly believes that anyone is capable of anything if they make the commitment to learn and continue to learn. You need to believe that you are not only capable of success ~ you are WORTHY of it.

2. Learn From Your Mistakes and Be Accountable

Everyone makes mistakes; what sets people apart is how they handle learning from it. If you make a mistake, blame others, and refuse to learn from it you will never be successful in your small business. Holding yourself accountable for errors, taking criticism, and making adjustments to your business so it doesn’t happen again is the mindset you want to take.

3. Don’t be Envious of Others ~ Learn from Them!

It’s hard with social media to not compare ourselves to others and in turn be envious of their accomplishments. We need to take a different approach to this that is less destructive to ourselves. Look to these people who have found success and learn from them, see this as motivation THAT SUCCESS CAN HAPPEN! You can quietly follow them and to learn or you can reach out to them and seek a mentor.

4. Surround Yourself with Positive People

This is so important. As an entrepreneur you will find that keeping a positive mindset about yourself will be a struggle. If you are surrounded by people that are doubting you, then you will eventually succumb to their beliefs and give up. We strongly encourage you to find a group of people that will motivate you and remind you of your capabilities. Finding other entrepreneurs that know what you are going through is a great way to find a support system. Of course WCE is can help with that! We have Coffee & Connections Events that are a great way to bond with entrepreneurs near you. And if you are local to Houston, Texas our Inspirational Series is a great way to find motivation, support, and inspiration from others!

5. Lose the Idea of Being Perfect

If you keep striving for perfection you will never completely follow through with your goals! Perfection for the most part is unattainable and you will find yourself wasting precious time trying to reach it when it is truly unnecessary. It is much more important to go for it than making sure everything is perfect!

6. Be Willing to Take Risks

Not only do you need to be comfortable with taking risks you need to be open to pivoting your business when necessary. Advancements in technology and even society do not move in a straight line. What makes sense for your business today might not be relevant in 10 years ~ And that’s ok! Have an open mind, move your business towards progression and be ok with taking that risk.

7. Be Consistent

Seriously, be consistent. We said above to pivot when necessary, but we don’t want you to take that as an excuse to change your business model every few months. Owning a business can get tedious and monotonous at times ~ push through it! Don’t start a whole new business just because things aren’t exciting and new. If you create consistency and habit within your work ethic then you will see consistent growth and success in your business.

Having a growth mindset is not as easy as this list makes it sound. There will be days when you are feeling on top of the world and other days you will feel like the biggest fraud and failure. When those days creep in make sure to either take time for self care or connect with your support system. You are not alone in this journey!
